When "...Different Drummer" was initially recorded, writer/producer and indie label owner, Bill Jacocks, a former Motown writer turned newscaster, kept the recorded time at 3:27; considered long for airplay at that time ('69). The record got some airplay
on the Var-1 label, before New York's Vince Poncia of DeLite Records came to Cleveland seeking to license the master. DeLite's version was edited even shorter, though saying 3:27 as well. When Purple Image was given freedom to do the Map City Records album,they used Jacocks's "...Drummer" as the centerpiece, jamming with it for 15 min:24 seconds.
