Amongst the non-infectious orbital Inflammation, orbital pseudotumor is discussed in the beginning of this ophthalmology video lecture. It is also referred to as idiopathic orbital inflammatory disease (IOID). It can be diagnosed using Clinical Radiology, fine needle aspiration and incisional biopsy. Another ailment highlighted here is the Tolosa-Hunt syndrome.
Thyroid eye disease diagnosis has been explained in detail. Its Pathogenesis involves orbital fibroblasts which release various Cytokines and causes Inflammation. This clinical condition is associated with various signs like Enroth’s and Gifford’s sign alongside Dalrymple and Von Graefe’s sign. Its clinical course involves two phases viz congestive or active phase and fibrotic or inactive phase.
Carotid-cavernous fistula is another non-infectious Inflammation of the orbit which has two main types. These are low-flow and high-flow fistula. The former is secondary to Ocular Trauma and includes Proptosis whereas, the later has less pronounced symptoms. These can be diagnosed via selective carotid angiography and magnetic resonance angiography. However, these can be treated via endovascular technique.
